I remember when fast food joints used to be pretty good. I've gotten to the point now when I go order at a fast food place and it's terrible, I come home and try to recreate it. So recently we have been seeing the new pulled pork cheeseburger from Sonic, so of course we had to try it out! It was one of the nastiest things I have ever had from there. Talk about extremely disappointed! Nothing tasted right on that burger. The cheeseburger itself was dry and an off putting flavor. The so called pulled pork....I'm still not sure what that mystery meat or sauce was, but it wasn't pleasant! So of course we had to recreate it! Sonic do better!!!

I love trying out new burgers and such from fast food chains. We already know it's not gonna be that good, but it does give you inspiration to come home and remake it! That is exactly what we did on this burger from Sonic! It didn't take much to improve on this one, but I mean how can you go wrong with homemade pulled pork piled on top of a double smash burger on a toasted brioche bun!? Sonic, I think I got you beat on this one!
Ingredients
-
1 Boneless Boston butt
-
Yellow Mustard
-
Aight Guys!! AbsolutelyFreakinKiller AP Rub
-
Aight Guys!! Smokey sweet Rub
-
¼ Cup of Apple Juice
-
Lane’s Kinda Sweet BBQ Sauce
-
½ Lb of 80/20 Ground Beef
-
2 Slices of American Cheese
-
1 Brioche Bun
-
Sriracha Mayonnaise
-
Dill Pickle Chips
Directions
Pulled Pork
Get your smoker fired up to 250 degrees.
While the smoker is coming up to temp, lice your Boston Butt into 3 sections.
Use yellow mustard as a binder and coat all 3 pieces of the pork really well.
Season each piece of pork with my Aight Guys!! AbsolutelyFreakinKiller AP Rub first and then come back with a layer of my Aight Guys!! Smokey Sweet Rub making sure to coat all sides good.
Let the pork sweat out for about 15 minutes, toss in a couple hickory chunks in the smoker and put your pork on there. Let it smoke until it reaches an internal temp of 165-170 degrees.
Once it hits the internal temp, pull them off and toss in a pan with the apple juice. Cover with foil and back on the smoker until the pork is probe tender. Gonna be somewhere around 205 internal temp.
When the pork is probe tender, place the pan in a Cambro or dry cooler for at least an hour or two to rest.
After your pork has rested, toss a cast iron skillet on the grill to heat up and shred your pork up. Make sure you season your pork with my Aight Guys!! Smokey Sweet Rub as you are shredding it.
Divide your hamburger meat into two ¼ pound balls and season with my Aight Guys!! AbsolutelyFreakinKiller AP Rub and my Aight Guys!! Smokey Sweet Rub.
Place your burger balls into the hot cast iron skillet and allow to cook for a few seconds, roll them over and smash down with a burger press. ( This helps it not to stick to your burger press )
Once you get a nice crust on the underside of the burgers, flip them over and add a slice of American cheese to each patty.
Once the burgers are done, stack them on top of each other and remove from skillet.
Toast up your brioche buns in the hot cast iron skillet in the hamburger grease.
Time to assemble! Put sriracha mayonnaise on the bottom bun and place your double stacked burger patties on top of the sriracha mayo.
Pile the pulled pork on top of the burger patties, drizzle it with some Lane’s BBQ Kinda Sweet BBQ Sauce, add dill pickle chips and drizzle the top bun with more of the Kinda Sweet BBQ Sauce.
Time to cap that baby off and dig in!

Recipe Note
You can add whatever condiments you like, but I would highly recommend CANDIED JALAPENOS over dill pickle chips!
